Abstract

The political events that accompany the current configuration of the world system have in cultural diversity an inevitable source of contradictions, resistances and intrasocial conflicts. Contrary to what was foreseen decades ago, the so-called globalization process is not causing sociocultural homogeneity; on the contrary, it is accompanied by a notable rebirth of identities (Díaz-Polanco 2006), many of which are expressed on the individual and transitory levels of the cultural logic of advanced capitalism. Although, at the same time, there are ancestral identities that are reinforcing their sense of collectivity and territoriality to maintain and reproduce their traditional community fabrics.
